Gravesens Farms North Dakota

He gets up before the dawn
Packs a lunch and a thermos full of coffee
It's another day in the dusty haze
Those burnin' rays are wearing down his body
And diesel's worth the price of gold
And it's the cheapest grain he's ever sold
But he's still holding on

Person of the week...an entire state

A revolt towards this description in National Geografhic, January 2008: In the early 20th century, railroads lured settlers into North Dakota with promises of homesteads. Towns were planted everywhere. Houses rose from the sweep of the plains, many, like this one, with a story no one can trace. People believed rain would follow the plow. But they were wrong.

North Dakota Road Trip

Driving on some random North Dakota Roads. US Highway 2 from Ray to Minot. Across the prairie, down more...in to White Earth Valley. Some more flat farm land, then into the valley again near Minot.
Next is the Old Highway from Minot, to Stanley. On this back road, you see a lot of old abandon farm houses and small towns. You can spot some deer if you look close enough.
Last part is along ND Highway 8 from Stanley to Van Hook on the shore of Lake Sakakawea. There are a lot more abandon structures along this road.
